Expanding customer services and new team  members offer even more support to producers

Sumi is entering a new era by offering its customers broader and more comprehensive business customer services.

The company’s service agreement with Rinki will end this year, and from now on, Sumi’s customers will receive the same statutory producer responsibility services directly from Sumi.

As part of this change, three new team members are joining Sumi to assist customers with reporting and invoicing, and to keep them up to date with legislative developments.

New team members and AI supporting customers in reporting

SumiOn is Sumi’s new reporting portal that simplifies packaging data reporting. Known for their “can-do” attitude, the Sumi team began developing the system after hearing customer feedback about the need for smoother and more efficient reporting. From the very beginning, the guiding principle for the new system was clear: producer responsibility should not be just a legal obligation and a fee — it should also benefit businesses.

SumiOn users are supported by our new Customer service advisors, Jenni Lahtinen and Tiia Tankka, who know the system inside and out.

“Even though the system is very easy to use, we are always ready to help customers if any issues arise. Our goal is to ensure a smooth everyday experience and an effortless system implementation for every customer company,” says Tankka.

Every user reporting packaging data also has access to SumiOn’s built-in AI assistant. The AI provides quick answers to frequently asked questions and packaging definitions and even offers guidance on using the system. If the AI cannot resolve an issue, Sumi’s customer service and expert team are ready to provide personal support.

Sumi’s new Communications Assistant Annika Korte emphasises that the AI assistant provides reliable and verified information.

“We’ve developed the AI assistant extensively and built it on verified data sources. It helps with reporting, but it can also answer questions about legislation and producer responsibility more generally.”

Next year, Sumi will also launch a new service: reporting workshops, where customers can receive personal guidance on using the SumiOn system. The first workshops will take place alongside the next SumiOn webinar on 8 January 2026.

SumiOn reporting system launches at the turn of the year

Lahtinen, who joined Sumi from a waste management company and has a strong interest in developing digital services, says she is excited to promote the circular economy through SumiOn.

“I’m really looking forward to the turn of the year, when the new system becomes available to customers. It will be exciting to hear the first feedback and continue developing the system based on it.”

Korte, on the other hand, says her goal is to clarify all questions related to the use and schedule of the reporting system. She also wants to ensure that producer-responsible companies stay up to date with legislative changes and other current topics relevant to them.
