The launch of the operations of Sumi Åland Ab, a subsidiary of Sumi Oy, has been delayed until this fall. The situation changed when Suomen Pakkaustuottajat Oy (SPT) announced its intentions to also expand into the Åland market, contrary to its previous decision. Following this news, we wanted to ensure that we could provide solutions specifically tailored to Åland producers, even in a competitive situation.
We are pleased to report that discussions with local producers have revealed a strong desire for the continuation of Sumi Åland operation. “We continue our work in Åland because so many producers have expressed their support for it. Like Sumi, Sumi Åland is also genuinely committed to promoting the producers best interests,” says Sumi’s CEO Mika Surakka.
We are now continuing to apply for official producer community status from the Åland authorities, who have extended the application deadline to October 1, 2024.
The future board of Sumi Åland will consist of producers, ensuring that decision-making remains local. They will also get to decide on prices and contracts, ensuring that all operations are transparent and the cost structure is clear.
