Finnish Plastics Recycling Ltd (FPR) is now officially a producer responsibility organization for all packaging types, as the The Pirkanmaa ELY Centre approved us in the producer register on 5 May 2023. Our operations now cover producer responsibility for paper/cardboard, metal, plastic, glass, and wood packaging.
Why does this impact producers with old agreements made through RINKI?
Previously each packaging material had their own producer responsibility organization. Our service company Finnish Package Recycling RINKI Ltd has managed their joint agreements centrally. According to the Waste Act that took effect in July 2021, the scope of a packaging producer responsibility organization must cover all packaging materials. Thus, producer responsibility organizations for just one packaging material no longer exist.
As a result of the amendment, each producer company must have a producer responsibility transfer agreement for all packaging with only one producer responsibility organization by 1 January 2025. The old agreements made through RINKI were joint agreements, with FPR as the contracting party for handling plastic packaging producer responsibility. The change requires updating the agreement. In practice, operations will continue as before. RINKI will act as our service company also in the future – for example, collecting packaging data and invoicing recycling fees will continue to be managed centrally by RINKI.
Handling packaging producer responsibility easily in one go through FPR
Producers who don’t have a previous agreement for handling packaging producer responsibility can join FPR and fill out the agreement here.
Producers who do have an agreement in effect can get all the requisite agreements in effect with us already from the start of 2024. This, however, requires that you to take action by 30 June 2023 the latest. Please read the agreement terms here, fill out the agreement form and send it to us. We will take care of all the necessary changes on your behalf in one go.
