CEO’s review – September 2025

The year 2025 has been significant for Sumi’s strategy. Our operations are guided by one core principle: the benefit of producers. We want to make producer responsibility easier to manage and bring added value in matters of sustainability. In this way, we also strengthen the competitiveness of the companies connected to Sumi.

Sumi Sorting – strengthening domestic recycling

Construction of the plastic packaging sorting plant, Sumi Sorting, has progressed rapidly. Earthmoving and piling work was completed a month ahead of schedule, and the facility will be completed during next year. As a result, domestic sorting capacity will increase significantly, sorting efficiency will improve, and the recycling rate of plastic packaging will rise.

The facility will make Finland self-sufficient in plastic packaging sorting. This secures the availability of recycled raw materials for domestic industry, reduces transport costs, and keeps circular economy jobs in Finland.

SumiOn – a new reporting system for producers

At the beginning of 2026, we will launch Sumi’s own reporting system, SumiOn. It will greatly simplify producer responsibility reporting, as the system is based on data readily available in each company’s sales records.

Reporting can also be done on a monthly basis if desired, which keeps cost calculations up to date and ensures that any changes in packaging are immediately reflected in reports. The system includes several practical tools that make packaging data management easier. In addition, SumiOn provides product-specific cost data, supporting more accurate pricing decisions.

Nordic PRO – cooperation across borders

Nordic cooperation through Nordic PRO has also taken major steps forward. Sumi can now offer one-stop reporting not only for Finland but also for Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. This makes international operations smoother and more efficient for producers.
